Wyatt Transfer is the oldest continually operating trucking company in Virginia. It was founded in 1885 by Clarence Wyatt when he used mules and drays to deliver supplies and materials from the railroad to the Richmond area. Wyatt Transfer remained in family hands until it was purchased in 1971 by Charles and Virginia Chewning.
In 1980, Wyatt was granted authority to operate interstate as a commom carrier of general commodities between Richmond and Norfolk and other areas in Virginia, Maryland and North Carolina. Wyatt started handling ocean containers in 1983. Today we offer daily services at all ports in the greater Hampton Roads area and the Port of Richmond to and from points in the midwest and the eastern seabord. Wyatt also provides local drayage and contract hauling for businesses and industries within the commercial area of Richmond, also operating out the Port of Richmond.
Cindy and David Chewning are second generation owners and operators of the company with third generation on site and involved in daily management.
Corporate offices and a terminal are in Richmond, Virginia just off I-95 at the Bells Road exit. The Norfolk terminal is at the Freeman Avenue exit off I-464 in Chesapeake, Virginia. With full maintenance facilities at both locations, Wyatt is able to react to any needs from truck repair to container stripping.
